Duane “PAWNBROKER” Raced at Detroit Dragway
The 60’s and 70’s were a great time for us hot rod lovers at Detroit Dragway. One of the guys that raced at the ole “Dirty D” was Duane “PAWNBROKER” Ong…
Duane was a local guy from the Downriver area, which is walking distance to Detroit Dragway. Duane raced a dragster called the “Torque PAWNBROKER” this was an old RAMCHARGERS hot rod. This dragster had vertical fins located over the rear wheels, and was powered by a blown hemi.
on August 30, 1970 Duane raced at the AHRA Nationals at New York National, Duane won this race, and his dragster became the first rear engine dragster to win a national event.
Duane also teamed up with car owner Ray Gallagher, and raced a NITRO Mustang, called TRADER RAY.
Duane made it to the 2013 Detroit Dragway Reunion @ Milan Dragway to meet & greet old friends & fans.
There are many articles about Duane and his hot rods online, we only put a brief couple of lines on just to acknowledge, and remember Duane for his contribution to Detroit Dragway.
